We recently caught up with Jacob Howard of Coveted Design in Vacaville, CA to get the low down on his shop truck turned rollin’ neck breaker Chevy Silverado Z71 build.

I’m from the Sacramento area and I work on custom vehicles and restorations for a living. I specialize in fabrication. I’ve always been into trucks and have built a number of them, but primarily lowered or bagged customs so this is my first lifted truck build. I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I think I’m going in the right direction. I was inspired to build one simply because I hadn’t done one before, and honestly, I originally bought it as a shop truck to haul parts and metal. But me being me, I just can’t leave anything alone!

Since I wasn’t too versed on all the latest and greatest in the lifted truck game, I just started looking on social media and followed a couple of people on Instagram. I started asking questions like everybody else about lifts, wheel and tire sizes, etc. and I put a plan together. At first, I put the truck together with a smaller lift, wheels, tires and with just a few powder coated parts here and there. I drove it that way for about a year and then had to go bigger, so I pulled it all apart again and here we are.

This has been a two year process from first deconstruction to now. The majority of the work was done by myself on this truck and the biggest challenge was just getting things that weren’t in my control done. It’s a little frustrating but that’s the nature of things in the custom vehicle world. It’s close to being completely finished, I have a few small parts still to go on but that’s about it. Famous last words of a builder lol.

I call her the Land Yacht and the reason is pretty simple. The first time my little sister saw it she said, “that’s just a big ol’ land yacht!” I get similar reactions when I’m driving around and with 2020 pretty much shut down I haven’t been able to do the show scene too much, but I’ve hit a couple and usually get a halfway decent response from people. It feels great to have complete strangers give you compliments on what you’ve built. My next build is a 1959 Chevy Apache pickup that’s already in the works. It’s body dropped on a Porterbuilt frame, 5.3L motor, suicide doors and some other trick custom metal work, so be on the look out for this one.
